Ex-Newcastle and Liverpool striker now plying his trade for FC Bastia-Borgo

Carroll, 34, spent last season at Championship side Reading

Former England international Andy Carroll is reportedly the lowest-paid player in the French fourth tier. The 34-year-old striker is believed to be earning just £2,250-a-month at FC Bastia-Borgo, according to French outlet Le Parisien. Carroll joined the Corsican club in the summer after being released by Championship side Reading at the end of last season. The former Newcastle and Liverpool striker has made a modest impact in France, scoring just twice in 10 appearances for Bastia-Borgo. Despite his lack of goals, Carroll is understood to be happy at the club and has no desire to leave. "I'm really happy here," Carroll told Le Parisien. "I love the club, the fans and the city. I'm not thinking about leaving." Carroll's agent, Mark Curtis, confirmed that his client is content with his lot in life. "Andy is very happy at Bastia-Borgo," Curtis told Chronicle Live. "He's enjoying his football and he's settled in well. "He's not interested in moving on. He's happy to stay at Bastia-Borgo for the rest of his career." Carroll's decision to drop down to the fourth tier of French football has raised eyebrows, but the striker insists that he is not motivated by money. "I'm not here for the money," Carroll said. "I'm here because I love football and I want to play. "I'm happy to play at any level, as long as I'm enjoying my football." Carroll's comments echo those of his manager, Mathieu Chabert. "Andy is a great player and he's a great guy," Chabert told Le Parisien. "He's a role model for our young players. "He's not here for the money. He's here because he loves football and he wants to help us achieve our goals." Bastia-Borgo are currently seventh in the Championnat National 2, the fourth tier of French football. The club is aiming to win promotion to the Championnat National, the third tier of French football, this season. If Carroll can help Bastia-Borgo achieve their goal, it will be a remarkable achievement for the former England international.
