Army Confirms One Of The Killed Militants Linked To Rifleman’s Murder

Srinagar, May 25:(GNS) The army on Wednesday confirmed that one of the militants killed in an encounter in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday was involved in the killing of Rifleman Aurangzeb.

He said the militant has been identified as Mudasir Wagay, a resident of Redwani Payeen in Kulgam district.

“Wagay was involved in the killing of Rifleman Aurangzeb of 44 RR in Pulwama district on June 14, 2018,” he said.

Aurangzeb was abducted by militants from Kalampora area of Pulwama on June 14, 2018. His bullet-riddled body was recovered the next day from Gusoo village of Pulwama.

The army officer said that Wagay was also involved in planning and executing other attacks on security forces in the area.

“He was a close associate of terrorist commander Sameer Tiger and was active in the area for the last three years,” he said.

The officer said that Wagay’s killing is a major success for the security forces.

“It will help in bringing down the level of violence in the area,” he said.(GNS)
