Bonner: "I thought there were some good performances"
Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner was pleased with his side's performance in their 2-1 defeat to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.
Despite the loss, the U's put in a spirited display and were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.
The U's took the lead in the first half through Joe Ironside, but Portsmouth hit back with two goals in the second half to secure the victory.
Bonner was pleased with his side's performance, but admitted that they need to be more clinical in front of goal.
"I thought there were some good performances tonight," said Bonner.
"We created some good chances and we probably should have taken more of them.
"But Portsmouth are a good side and they punished us for our mistakes.
"We need to be more clinical in front of goal, but I'm pleased with the overall performance.
"We're still a work in progress, but we're moving in the right direction.
"We've got a big game coming up against Exeter on Saturday and we'll be looking to bounce back with a positive result."
The U's will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Portsmouth when they take on Exeter City at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday.
Exeter are currently top of League Two, but the U's will be confident of getting a result against them.
Bonner will be hoping that his side can put in a similar performance to the one they did against Portsmouth and take all three points.
