Breeders' Cup Classic: Flightline Wins Again, Remains Unbeaten
American Pharoah's Record Unmatched
Flightline, the heavy favorite, won the Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday at Keeneland Racecourse in Lexington, Kentucky, extending his perfect record to six races. The victory marks the horse's third Grade 1 win of the year, having also won the Pacific Classic and the Malibu Stakes.
Ridden by Flavien Prat, Flightline broke from the starting gate as the 3-5 favorite and immediately took the lead. He set a slow pace through the early stages of the race, with his rivals content to sit behind him. As the field turned for home, Flightline began to accelerate, and his rivals had no answer. He crossed the finish line 8 1/4 lengths ahead of second-place finisher Olympiad.
The victory was a dominant performance from Flightline, who is now considered one of the best racehorses in the world. He has won all six of his races by a combined margin of more than 60 lengths, and he has yet to be seriously challenged.
Flightline's Connections Thrilled with Victory
Flightline's trainer, John Sadler, was thrilled with his horse's performance. "He's just an amazing horse," Sadler said. "He does everything you ask him to do. He's the best horse I've ever trained." Flightline's jockey, Flavien Prat, was equally impressed. "He's a very special horse," Prat said. "He's got a lot of talent, and he's very easy to ride. He's the real deal."
What's Next for Flightline?
The Breeders' Cup Classic was likely Flightline's final race of the year. Sadler said that the horse will now be given some time off to rest and recover. Flightline's connections will then decide whether to race him again in 2023. If he does race again, he will likely be pointed towards the Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park in January.
