Castleford Tigers make shock move for former player following Leeds Rhinos release
Former Leeds Rhinos forward Alex Sutcliffe has made a sensational return to Castleford Tigers after being released by the Super League club.
The 27-year-old prop forward, who made over 100 appearances for Castleford between 2015 and 2021, will add much-needed depth to the Tigers' pack.
Sutcliffe was released by Leeds at the end of the 2022 season after failing to break into the first team.
Castleford Tigers head coach Lee Radford was delighted to bring Sutcliffe back to the club.
"Alex is a great player who knows our system well," said Radford.
"He's a tough, physical forward who will add some much-needed experience to our pack."
Sutcliffe is expected to make his debut for Castleford in their pre-season friendly against Hull FC on January 29.
Castleford Tigers are hoping that Sutcliffe can help them improve on their disappointing 2022 season.
The Tigers finished 10th in the Super League table last season, and will be hoping to challenge for a play-off place in 2023.
Sutcliffe will be joined at Castleford by fellow new signing Gareth O'Brien, who has joined the club from Huddersfield Giants.
The Tigers are also hoping to sign half-back Jake Trueman from Hull FC, but a deal is yet to be agreed.
