Cowgate Edinburgh: Reveller describes moment people told to 'get out' amid police incident
What happened?
A reveller has described the moment people were told to "get out" of a popular Edinburgh venue amid a heavy police presence on Saturday night.
The incident happened at around 11:30pm on Saturday, July 23, on Cowgate, a busy street in the city center known for its bars and clubs.
One reveller, who wished to remain anonymous, told Edinburgh Live that they were enjoying a night out with friends when they were suddenly told to leave the venue.
What did the witnesses say?
"We were just dancing and having a good time when all of a sudden the music stopped and the lights came on," the witness said.
"A member of staff came over the tannoy and told everyone to leave the venue immediately."
"We didn't know what was going on, but we could see a lot of police officers outside so we just did as we were told."
What did the police say?
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called to a report of a disturbance at a premises on Cowgate, Edinburgh, around 11:30pm on Saturday, July 23."
"Officers attended and a number of people were dispersed from the area."
"There were no arrests and no reports of any injuries."
What do we know so far?
It is not yet clear what caused the incident, but police are investigating.
The venue has not yet commented on the incident.
