Edinburgh police confirm pedestrian struck by vehicle amid reports of 'severed head'
Officers were called to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in Edinburgh on Monday evening.
The incident happened on the A701 at around 7.30pm last night.
Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was taken to hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.
The road was closed for several hours while officers carried out investigations.
Police said they are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Constable Dave Ramsay said: "We are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward. We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a pedestrian in the area prior to the collision.
"We would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle involved in the collision, which is described as a dark-coloured car."
