Donegal boss says he takes hat off to Shannon Gaels club chair after offensive article that sparked fury with his community

The Donegal boss said he found the article "hurtful and upsetting"

DONEGAL BOSS Enda McGinley was among those who offered their support to Shannon Gaels club chairperson Jody Formley, after she was subjected to a torrent of abuse following the publication of a newspaper article.

In the article, Formley was accused of making offensive comments about the Travelling community in a letter she wrote to the club's management and players.

McGinley, who is also the manager of the Donegal senior football team, said he was "awestruck" by Formley's courage in speaking out against the abuse she had received.

"I take my hat off to Jody," McGinley said.

"She has shown great courage in speaking out against the abuse she has received. It is important that we stand up to this type of behaviour and show that it is not acceptable."

Formley has since received widespread support from across the GAA community, with many people praising her for her courage in speaking out against the abuse she had received.

The Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) has also released a statement condemning the abuse directed at Formley.

"The GAA is committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all," the statement said.

"We condemn the abuse that has been directed at Jody Formley and we offer her our full support."
