Leeds United brush aside Plymouth Argyle to reach Carabao Cup fourth round
Marsch's men put in clinical display against League One opposition
Goals from Rodrigo, Harrison and Bamford secure routine victory
Leeds United booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over League One side Plymouth Argyle at Elland Road on Tuesday night.
Goals from Rodrigo, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford secured a routine win for Jesse Marsch's men, who were in control throughout. The Whites made a fast start and took the lead in the third minute when Rodrigo converted Harrison's cross from close range.
Harrison doubled the advantage with a fine solo effort in the 28th minute, before Bamford wrapped up the scoring in the 53rd minute with a close-range finish. Plymouth had a few chances to get back into the game, but Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier was in inspired form.
The Whites will now face either Wolves or Gillingham in the fourth round, which will be played in the week commencing November 7.
Reaction
Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch: "I'm very happy with the performance and the result. We were clinical in front of goal and we defended well. I thought we controlled the game from start to finish."
Plymouth Argyle manager Steven Schumacher: "We're disappointed with the result, but we can't be too disheartened. We gave a good account of ourselves and we created some good chances. We just need to be more clinical in front of goal."
