Motherwell Captain steps out for his second start

Motherwell have handed an early Christmas present to academy graduate Lennon Miller, giving the teenager the captain's armband for tonight's Premier Sports Cup semi-final against Dundee United.

The teenager, 18, is the youngest player to skipper Motherwell since Davie Cooper captained the side against Rangers in the 1980 Scottish Cup Final and becomes the youngest captain in the club's 135 year history.

Miller living the dream

Miller has starred for the club's development side this season, captaining his side to the SPFL Reserve League title and was handed his full debut against Queen's Park last month.

However, the Fir Park academy product will have to display all his young talents against Jack Ross' men who themselves are former winners of this trophy and will be looking to test the mettle of the young Steelmen captain.

Manager Steven Hammell explained his decision to give Miller the armband to the Motherwell website.

"Lennon is a future captain of this club, there is no doubt about that," Hammell said. "He leads by example every day in training, he has the respect of the players and staff, and I know he will relish this opportunity.

"He is a Motherwell fan, born and bred, and he understands what it means to represent this club. I am sure he will do us proud tonight."
