Man charged after woman seriously injured in Paulsgrove

A 55-year-old man has been charged following an incident in Paulsgrove in which a woman was seriously injured last night (Friday, August 19).

The man, of no fixed address, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court this morning (Saturday, August 20).

The woman, who is in her 40s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following the incident in Anchorage Park at about 10.30pm.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Detective Inspector Matt Wakeford, of Hampshire Constabulary's Major Crime Department, said: "This was a serious incident and we are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the exact circumstances.

"We have arrested a man and he has now been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

"The victim remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition and our thoughts are with her and her family at this time.

"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information that could assist our investigation to contact us as soon as possible."
