Marcelo's Contract Terminated by Fluminense after Touchline Spat with Manager Mano Menezes
Fluminense and Marcelo mutually agreed to terminate his contract, ending his second spell at the Brazilian club.
The left-back, who joined Fluminense in 2021, had a heated argument with manager Mano Menezes during their 2-2 draw against Athletico Paranaense on Sunday.
The incident, which was caught on camera, showed Marcelo confronting Menezes on the touchline after being substituted in the second half. The pair exchanged words before Marcelo stormed off the pitch.
Menezes said after the match that he would not tolerate such behavior from any player.
"I will not accept any player disrespecting me or the club," Menezes said. "Marcelo is a great player, but he needs to understand that he has to follow the rules like everyone else."
Marcelo, who has 58 caps for Brazil, has been linked with a move to several clubs in Europe, including Lazio and Sevilla.
The 34-year-old is a free agent and is now able to join a new club on a free transfer.
Marcelo's departure is a blow to Fluminense, who are currently fifth in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.
The club has not yet announced a replacement for Marcelo, but they are expected to sign a new left-back in the January transfer window.
