Marshall Heys makes FA Cup history
Non-league striker becomes oldest ever goalscorer in the competition's history
Heys, 49, scored a penalty for Ashton Athletic in their extra-preliminary round win over Daisy Hill
Ashton Athletic striker Marshall Heys has made FA Cup history by becoming the oldest goalscorer in the competition's history.
Heys, 49, scored a penalty for the Northern Premier League Division One North West side in their extra-preliminary round win over Daisy Hill on Saturday.
The veteran striker, who has played for over 30 clubs in his career, netted from the spot in the 119th minute to secure a 2-1 victory for his team.
Heys' goal means he has now overtaken former England international Sir Stanley Matthews as the oldest scorer in the FA Cup.
Matthews was 48 years and 155 days old when he scored for Stoke City against Halifax Town in the 1965-66 season.
Heys is now set to lead the line for Ashton Athletic in the next round of the FA Cup, when they face Warrington Town away from home.
