McLaren admits no “easy solution” to F1 team orders headache
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has admitted that there is no "easy solution" to the team's headache over team orders in Formula 1.
The British team has found itself in a difficult position in recent races, with Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo often running closely on track and battling for position.
This has led to some tense moments, with Norris notably unhappy after being asked to move aside for Ricciardo at the Austrian Grand Prix. Brown has since admitted that the team needs to find a better way to manage team orders, but he has also stressed that there is no simple solution.
"It's not an easy solution," Brown said.
"We've got two drivers who are very close on pace, and they're both ambitious and want to win. So, it's a difficult balance to strike.
"We don't want to stifle either driver, but we also need to be mindful of the team's results. So, it's a work in progress.
"We're trying to find the right balance, and we're open to feedback from both drivers. We're also looking at other teams to see how they manage team orders.
"But, ultimately, it's a decision that we have to make as a team. We need to find a solution that works for everyone.
"We're not going to always get it right, but we're going to keep trying to find the best solution for the team."
McLaren's team orders headache is a reminder of the challenges that F1 teams face when managing two competitive drivers. It is a difficult balance to strike, and there is no easy solution.
However, McLaren is committed to finding a solution that works for both Norris and Ricciardo. The team is confident that it can find a way to manage team orders in a fair and equitable way.
In the meantime, McLaren will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as necessary. The team is confident that it can find a solution that will allow both Norris and Ricciardo to reach their full potential.
