MotoGP: Jorge Martin on verge of title after Malaysia win
Martin wins in Malaysia to extend Championship lead
Martin now 12 points clear with two races remaining
Jorge Martin has taken a giant step towards winning the Moto2 World Championship after claiming victory in Malaysia. The Spaniard now leads the Championship by 12 points with just two races remaining. Martin started the race in pole position and led from start to finish, controlling the pace and not letting any other rider get close. He eventually crossed the line to win by over two seconds from Luca Marini and Marco Bezzecchi.
Martin had been in excellent form all weekend and had topped every practice session. He was also the fastest rider in qualifying, beating Marini by just 0.006 seconds. The win in Malaysia is Martin's fifth of the season and extends his lead in the Championship to 12 points. With just two races remaining, Martin is now the clear favorite to win the title.
Speaking after the race, Martin said: "I'm very happy with the win. It was a great race and I was able to control it from start to finish. I'm now 12 points clear in the Championship and I'm feeling very confident. I'm looking forward to the next two races and I'm determined to win the title."
Martin's victory in Malaysia was a major blow to the hopes of his rivals. Marini, who is second in the Championship, now needs to win both of the remaining races to have a chance of winning the title. Bezzecchi, who is third in the Championship, is also out of contention after finishing third in Malaysia.
