MotoGP, LIVE Bar Sport at 3:30 p.m. - Bagnaia, title slips away
Francesco Bagnaia's title hopes took a huge blow at the Malaysian Grand Prix as he crashed out of the race while leading.
The Italian rider had started from pole position and was in control of the race until he lost the front of his Ducati at Turn 11 on lap 16. He was able to remount and finish the race in 15th place, but the damage to his championship lead was significant.
Fabio Quartararo, Bagnaia's closest rival in the title race, took advantage of Bagnaia's misfortune to win the race and extend his lead in the standings to 23 points with just two races remaining.
Bagnaia's crash was the latest in a series of setbacks for the Ducati rider in recent races.
He crashed out of the lead in Japan and finished ninth in Thailand, and he was also forced to retire from the Australian Grand Prix due to a technical problem.
With just two races remaining, Bagnaia now needs to win both races and hope that Quartararo finishes off the podium in both races to have any chance of winning the title.
The Malaysian Grand Prix was a disappointing day for Ducati, as Jack Miller also crashed out of the race while running in second place.
The Australian rider lost the front of his bike at Turn 1 on the opening lap and was unable to continue.
The crash was a blow to Miller's hopes of finishing on the podium in the championship standings, but he remains in third place, 20 points behind Quartararo.
In the Moto2 race, Pedro Acosta took his first win of the season.
The Spanish rider started from pole position and led every lap of the race to take the victory ahead of Augusto Fernandez and Ai Ogura.
Acosta's win was his first since the Indonesian Grand Prix in March, and it moved him up to second place in the championship standings, 30 points behind Fernandez.
In the Moto3 race, Izan Guevara took his third win of the season.
The Spanish rider started from third on the grid and overtook Deniz Oncu and Sergio Garcia on the opening lap to take the lead.
Guevara then controlled the race to take the victory ahead of Garcia and Dennis Foggia.
