Nathan Jones Gives Verdict On FA Cup Tie Against Southend United
Charlton Boss Sees It As ‘Nice Distraction’
Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has given his verdict on the club’s upcoming FA Cup tie against Southend United. The Addicks will host the League Two side at The Valley on Saturday 5th November, and Jones is looking forward to the match.
‘Nice Distraction’
“It’s a nice distraction from the league,” said Jones. “It’s a chance to have a cup run and go as far as we can. We’ve got a good squad, and I think we can do well in the FA Cup.”
Charlton have a good recent record in the FA Cup, reaching the semi-finals in 2017 and the quarter-finals in 2018. Jones will be hoping to lead the club to another cup run this season.
‘Tough Opponents’
However, Jones is aware that Southend will be tough opponents. The Shrimpers are currently top of League Two, and they have already beaten League One side Peterborough United in the FA Cup this season.
“They’re a good side,” said Jones. “They’re top of their league, and they’ve already knocked out a League One team. We’ll need to be at our best to beat them.”
‘Good Preparation’
Charlton have been in good form in recent weeks, winning their last two league games. Jones will be hoping to continue that form into the FA Cup tie.
“We’ve had a good week of preparation,” said Jones. “The players are in good spirits, and they’re looking forward to the game.”
The FA Cup tie against Southend United is a big opportunity for Charlton Athletic. Jones will be hoping to lead the club to another cup run and go as far as they can.
