Nightmare in Edinburgh After Reports a 'Severed Head' Was Found in the Scottish Capital's Party District

Police Scotland has launched an investigation following the discovery of a 'severed head' in Edinburgh's party district.

The grim find was made in the early hours of Saturday morning in the city's Cowgate area, known for its lively nightlife and student population.

Police were called to the scene at around 1:30 am after a passerby reported seeing a suspicious package.

Officers cordoned off the area and later confirmed that the package contained a human head.

The head is believed to belong to a man in his 30s, but his identity has not yet been confirmed.

Police Scotland is treating the death as murder and has appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Martin Grainger said: "This is a shocking and disturbing incident, and we are determined to find out what happened and who is responsible.

"We are appealing to anyone who was in the Cowgate area in the early hours of Saturday morning and who may have seen anything suspicious to get in touch with us."

The discovery of the head has sent shockwaves through Edinburgh, and locals are being urged to be vigilant.

Police patrols have been stepped up in the area, and officers are conducting house-to-house inquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
