Northampton Town eased into the second round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 3-0 victory over National League North side Kettering Town at Sixfields Stadium.

The Cobblers were in control throughout and took the lead through Sam Hoskins in the first half.

Ali Koiki doubled the advantage after the break and substitute Shaun McWilliams sealed the win late on.

Kettering, who had won their previous three matches in all competitions, made a bright start but Northampton soon took control.

They had a good chance to open the scoring when Hoskins broke clear but Kettering goalkeeper Dan George made a fine save.

The Cobblers did not have to wait long for the opener, though, as Hoskins headed in a cross from Aaron McGowan in the 14th minute.

Kettering almost levelled when Connor Kennedy's shot was cleared off the line by Shaun McWilliams.

Northampton continued to press and went close through Sam Hoskins and Sid Nelson before half-time.

The Cobblers doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Koiki fired home from close range after a cross from McWilliams.

Kettering had a good chance to reduce the deficit when substitute Shane Byrne headed wide from a corner.

Northampton wrapped up the win in the 89th minute when McWilliams headed in a cross from Hoskins.

The Cobblers will now face League Two side Salford City in the second round.
