Nottingham Forest Fires Nuno Santo Amid Poor Run
Nuno Santo has been fired as the manager of Nottingham Forest after a dismal run of results has left the club bottom of the Premier League
Forest have won just one of their last ten matches in all competitions, with their last victory coming back on 14th August. Santo, 49, leaves the City Ground with Forest sitting bottom of the Premier League, having collected just four points from their first eight games.
Under Santo's guidance, Forest had the worst start of any newly promoted side in the Premier League era, losing six of their opening seven matches and conceding 22 goals in the process.
The club's hierarchy clearly felt that a change was needed to avoid a potential relegation scrap. Santo is the first managerial casualty of the Premier League season, with Forest now on the lookout for a new boss to turn their fortunes around.
Some of the issues that plagued Santo's Forest team included:
- Defensive frailties: Forest have conceded 22 goals in just eight Premier League games this season, the worst defensive record in the division.
- Lack of goals: Forest have scored just five goals in their first eight Premier League matches, leaving them as the division's joint-lowest scorers.
- Poor form at home: Forest have failed to win any of their first four Premier League matches at the City Ground.
It remains to be seen who Forest will appoint as their new manager, but they will need to act quickly in order to avoid getting cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier League.
Forest will be hoping to improve their fortunes when they travel to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.
