Rohit Sharma Played More List A Games Than England Combined
Cook Concerned About ODI Team's Inexperience After WI Defeat
Former England captain Alastair Cook has expressed concerns about the inexperience of his country's ODI team following their defeat against West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series.
England lost the match by nine wickets, with West Indies chasing down the target of 247 with more than 10 overs to spare.
Cook, who is now a commentator, said that England's ODI team lacks experience and it showed in their performance against West Indies.
"I think England's ODI team is very inexperienced," Cook said while commentating on the match. "They have got a lot of young players who are still learning the game."
Cook pointed out that Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian ODI team, has played more List A games than the entire England ODI team combined.
"Rohit Sharma has played 344 List A matches," Cook said. "That's more than the entire England ODI team combined. That's a huge difference in experience."
Cook said that England's ODI team needs to get more experience if they want to be successful in the coming years.
"England's ODI team needs to get more experience," Cook said. "They need to play more matches against top-quality opposition. The only way they're going to learn is by playing against the best."
England will play the second ODI against West Indies on Friday, August 24.
