Shrimpers boss Maher 'fuming' after FA Cup defeat
Southend United manager Kevin Maher has expressed his disappointment after his team's 3-2 defeat to Boreham Wood in the FA Cup first round.
The Shrimpers took the lead twice in the match, but they were pegged back on both occasions by the National League side. Boreham Wood eventually won the match in extra-time thanks to a goal from substitute Josh Rees.
Maher was left frustrated by his team's performance, and he admitted that he was "fuming" after the match.
"I'm fuming," Maher said. "We were in control of the game for long periods, but we made some individual errors that cost us.
We need to be more clinical in front of goal, and we need to be more resolute in defence. We can't afford to make the same mistakes again.
Southend United will now turn their attention to their next match, which is a League Two fixture against Harrogate Town on Saturday.
