Tottenham snubbed the chance to sign Ollie Watkins in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho refused to pay Brentford's £25m asking price.

The north London club were linked with a move for the striker, who scored 26 goals in the Championship last season and earned back a place in the England squad.

Watkins was heavily linked with a move to North London throughout the summer with Spurs thought to be frontrunners to wrap up a deal.

However, it has now emerged that Mourinho ruled out a deal for Watkins due to his valuation. Instead, Tottenham signed Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica on deadline day.

The Brazilian has failed to impress since arriving in the capital, scoring just one goal in 11 appearances.

Watkins, meanwhile, has continued to score goals for Brentford, netting nine times in 17 appearances this season.

The 24-year-old is now valued at around £30m, meaning Tottenham would have to pay a significant fee to sign him in the future.

In other news, Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

The Slovakia international has been a long-term target for Spurs, and they are thought to be preparing a £40m bid for the centre-back.

Skriniar is seen as a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Inter this season, and he would be a valuable addition to Tottenham's squad.
