Women's Bundesliga Table: Bayern at the Summit Following Matchday 5
FC Bayern Munich remains at the top of the Frauen-Bundesliga standings after the 5th matchday.
Bayern, the only team with a perfect record this season, recorded yet another victory, a 3-1 dismissal of SV Meppen at the FC Bayern Campus on Sunday afternoon. The triumph extends their lead at the summit of the league table to three points over nearest challengers Eintracht Frankfurt, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Turbine Potsdam.
Elsewhere, TSG Hoffenheim climbed to third place with a crucial 1-0 away win against SC Freiburg, while Bayer Leverkusen defeated Werder Bremen 3-1 to occupy fourth place.
Bayern's Title Charge Continues
Bayern's victory over Meppen was hard-earned, as the visitors put up a stubborn resistance in the first half. However, the home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute through a stunning long-range effort from Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir.
Germany international Lina Magull doubled Bayern's lead in the second half, before Meppen pulled one back through Martyna Wiankowska. Bayern restored their two-goal advantage soon after through Lea Schuller, sealing the three points.
The win was Bayern's 49th consecutive in the Frauen-Bundesliga, extending their incredible record. They remain the only unbeaten side in this season's competition.
Eintracht Frankfurt's Title Hopes Take a Hit
Eintracht Frankfurt's title aspirations suffered a setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Turbine Potsdam. The visitors took an early lead through Tanja Pawollek, but Turbine Potsdam equalized through Selina Cerci in the second half, earning a share of the spoils in the match.
The draw sees Frankfurt drop to second place, three points behind leaders Bayern Munich. Their hopes of a first league title since 2015 have been dealt a blow, but the reigning champions remain in contention with 13 games left to play.
