World Cup winner could be dropped by Lopetegui against Manchester United

Julen Lopetegui is considering dropping World Cup winner Alejandro Garnacho for Manchester United's clash with Barcelona.

Garnacho started in the Red Devils' 2-0 win over Leeds on Sunday but could be replaced by Anthony Elanga for the Europa League clash at the Nou Camp.

Lopetegui is said to be considering the switch as he looks to add more experience to his team for the crunch clash.

Elanga has started just three games under Lopetegui but has impressed the new boss with his attitude and application.

The 20-year-old scored in the Carabao Cup win over Burnley and also netted in the FA Cup victory at Reading.

Garnacho, meanwhile, has been in and out of the team since Lopetegui's arrival.

The 18-year-old has started just three of the last eight games and has failed to score in his last five appearances.

Lopetegui is a big fan of Garnacho's potential but he is also aware that the winger needs to be playing regularly in order to develop.

With the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Antony all competing for places in the wide positions, Garnacho could find himself dropping down the pecking order.

If Lopetegui does decide to drop Garnacho for the Barcelona clash, it will be a big blow for the youngster.

However, it could also be a sign that Lopetegui is willing to make tough decisions in order to get the best out of his team.
