Amy Dowden’s reaction to JB Gill’s near perfect score has Strictly fans ‘heart broken’
The heartbreaking moment from last week’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing came flooding back during the latest instalment on Saturday night.
Strictly Come Dancing pro Amy Dowden became overcome with emotion as she was seen watching JB Gill, who she was partnered with on in 2020, earn the second perfect score of the series for his Couple’s Choice performance to Shout by the Isley Brothers with his new professional dance partner Jowita Przystal.
JB’s ‘perfect’ score came a week after Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu secured the first perfect score of the series, which meant Amy had missed out by just a week from being part of the first perfect score of this series alongside reigning champion Giovanni Pernice.
Amy looked on, overwhelmed, as she watched on from the sidelines, as she clapped and choked back the tears while JB and Jowita beamed with pride and joy.
Jowita is partnered with John Whaite this year, with Amy partnered with CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson, missing out on the perfect score by just a week with her celebrity partner.
Fans took to Twitter in their droves afterwards to praise Amy’s professionalism and sportsmanship, with one fan tweeting: “Amy Dowden is the definition of a true professional, incredible sportsmanship after last week’s result.” While another added: “Amy Dowden crying after JB’s perfect score is making me so emotional, you can see how much she cares.”
The moment was particularly poignant for Amy as she was forced to pull out of the 2021 series of Strictly before the competition even began due to contracting Covid-19, which meant she would not dance with her celebrity partner Tom Fletcher.
Her absence was a huge blow at the time, not just for her and Tom but for all Strictly fans as Amy had become a firm favourite on the show, However, she was replaced by fellow pro dancer and reigning champion Oti Mabuse, who ended up guiding Tom all the way to the final, where he finished as runner-up to Rose Ayling-Ellis and her partner Giovanni Pernice.
But Amy got her chance to shine on this year’s series and has impressed with her brilliant routines with Rhys, who rose to fame on CBBC’s Saturday Mash-Up back in 2015.
