Evin Lewis Run Blitz Leads West Indies To Big Victory Over England
West Indies thrash England by 56 runs in Antigua to level three-match T20I series at 1-1
Evin Lewis smashed his second Twenty20 international century as West Indies thrashed England by 56 runs in the second match of their three-match series in Antigua on Sunday to level the series 1-1.
Lewis plundered 102 from 62 balls, including nine fours and five sixes, to help the West Indies post a commanding 224 for five from their 20 overs. England were bowled out for 168 off the final ball of their innings.
Jason Roy (45) and James Vince (30) got England off to a good start, but the tourists lost wickets at regular intervals and could never really keep up with the required run rate.
Chris Jordan top-scored for England with 33 not out, but he was unable to prevent the tourists from slipping to a heavy defeat.
Lewis's Knock Guides West Indies to a Commanding Total
Lewis was in devastating form from the outset, taking England's bowlers to all parts of the ground.
He reached his fifty from just 32 balls and brought up his century with a six off the bowling of Adil Rashid in the 18th over.
Lewis's innings was the cornerstone of the West Indies' total, with Shimron Hetmyer (39) and Rovman Powell (31) also making useful contributions.
England's Batters Fail to Keep Pace
England's bowlers struggled to contain Lewis and the West Indies' other batsmen, with only Chris Jordan (one for 30) and Rashid (one for 34) taking wickets.
In reply, England's batters never really got going, with only Roy, Vince, and Jordan making significant contributions.
The tourists lost wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 168 off the final ball of their innings.
West Indies Level Series with Big Win
The victory was a much-needed one for the West Indies, who had lost the first match of the series by seven wickets.
It levels the series at 1-1 and sets up a winner-takes-all third match on Tuesday.
The West Indies will be confident of completing a series win on home soil, while England will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing performance.
