Kettering Town hold Northampton Town to a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup

League Two Northampton have been held to a 1-1 draw away at National League North Kettering in the FA Cup.

Substitute Nicky Adams' stunning free-kick earned the hosts a replay against their higher-tier opponents.

Kettering took the lead in the 24th minute when Lee Gledhill nodded in Josh Griggs' cross.

Northampton levelled through Sam Hoskins' diving header after the break.

But Adams' superb 25-yard free-kick flew in off the underside of the bar to earn Kettering an FA Cup second-round replay.

Kettering manager Paul Cox said: "It was a great result. I'm really pleased with the players - they've worked their socks off.

"Northampton are a League Two side and we've matched them all the way. We've had a couple of chances to win it but I'm so proud of the lads."

Northampton boss Jon Brady said: "It was a tough game. Kettering made it very difficult for us.

"We showed a lot of character to come back from a goal down but we're disappointed not to have won the game."

The replay will take place at Northampton's Sixfields Stadium on 15 November.
