FC Bayern Munich slip to 1-1 draw at 1. FC Union Berlin in Bundesliga

Bavarian giants FC Bayern Munich were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw at 1. FC Union Berlin in the Bundesliga on Saturday, extending their winless run to three games and handing the initiative in the title race to rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Kingsley Coman gave Bayern an early lead at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei, but Sheraldo Becker equalized for the hosts just before the break to earn a deserved point for the in-form Union.

Bayern's struggles continue

The draw leaves Bayern three points behind Dortmund at the top of the table, having played one game more, and will raise further questions about the team's form under Julian Nagelsmann.

The Bavarian giants have now won just one of their last five league games and have looked far from their best in recent weeks, with their high-pressing game less effective and their defense looking vulnerable.

Union continue to impress

In contrast, Union continue to impress under Urs Fischer and are now unbeaten in their last eight Bundesliga games, a run that has seen them rise to fifth place in the table.

The Berliners were the better side for much of the game against Bayern and fully deserved their point, with Becker's goal a just reward for their efforts.

"We're disappointed with the result," said Nagelsmann. "We didn't play well enough in the first half and Union deserved to equalize. We improved in the second half but couldn't find the winning goal."

"We're happy with the point," said Fischer. "We played very well against a top team and deserved to get something from the game. We're confident that we can continue to challenge the top teams in the Bundesliga."
