Grant McCann praises Doncaster’s ‘grit’ in FA Cup win at Barrow

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann hailed his team’s “character and desire” in their FA Cup first-round win at Barrow.

McCann’s men came from behind at Holker Street after Scott Quigley’s glancing header gave Barrow a 14th-minute lead.

The visitors levelled through skipper Tom Anderson’s powerful header before the break, and Kyle Hurst fired them ahead for good after 65 minutes.

McCann told BBC Radio Sheffield: “It was outstanding. I thought it was a brilliant performance. You can talk about tactics all you want, but when you come to places like Barrow, it’s about resilience and grit and character.

“The conditions were atrocious, but we came out in the second half and battered them.

“We got the equaliser at a great time and we just wanted to keep going. We played some really good stuff second half, and probably should have scored another couple of goals.

“But the character and desire were there for all to see, and it’s a great win for us.

Doncaster will now host Mansfield in the second round on December 5.
