It showed why it's best cup in the world - Jones on Charlton's win at Blues
Charlton boss Ben Garner hailed his side's Carabao Cup victory at Portsmouth as a "special night" and praised the character of his players.
The Addicks came from behind to win 3-1 at Fratton Park, with goals from Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, George Dobson and Scott Fraser.
It was Charlton's first win in the competition since 2018 and their first away win since 2017.
Garner said: "It was a special night. We showed great character to come from behind and win the game. The players deserve a lot of credit for their performance.
“The Carabao Cup is a special competition and it's one that we want to do well in. We've got a tough draw in the next round, but we'll go into it with confidence."
Charlton took the lead through Rak-Sakyi in the first half, but Portsmouth equalised through Colby Bishop just before the break.
Dobson restored Charlton's lead in the second half and Fraser sealed the victory with a late goal.
Garner was particularly pleased with the way his team responded to going behind.
"We showed great character to come back from behind and win the game," he said.
"We didn't play well in the first half, but we were much better in the second half and we deserved to win."
Charlton will now face Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
