Matheus Cunha contradicts bold Gary O’Neil claim ahead of Wolves vs Crystal Palace
Wolves striker Matheus Cunha has contradicted manager Gary O’Neil’s claim that he is not yet ready to start for the club.
Cunha, who joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January, has made just one start for the club, in the FA Cup against Liverpool, and has come off the bench in the last two Premier League games.
However, the Brazilian believes he is ready to start more regularly and has hinted that he may have to leave Wolves if he is not given the opportunity.
"I think I'm ready to start," Cunha said. "I've been training hard and I feel like I'm getting better every day. I just need to keep working hard and wait for my chance."
O'Neil, however, has been more cautious in his assessment of Cunha's readiness. "Matheus is a very good player, but he's still adapting to the Premier League," O'Neil said.
"He's a young player and he's still learning. We need to be patient with him. He's not yet ready to start every game, but he's getting closer."
Cunha's comments suggest that he may be growing frustrated with his lack of playing time at Wolves. The 24-year-old is a talented player with a lot of potential, but he needs to be playing regularly in order to reach his full potential.
If O'Neil continues to leave Cunha on the bench, it is possible that the Brazilian will look to leave Wolves in the summer. There are a number of clubs who would be interested in signing Cunha, and he would be a valuable asset to any team.
