Severed Head Found in Scottish Capital's Party District

Police in Edinburgh are investigating after a severed head was found in the city's party district.

Detectives say the shocking discovery was made outside a property in Leith Walk, on Sunday, at around 10.30 pm.

Police sealed off the area for several hours while forensic officers carried out their examination.

The head is believed to be that of a young woman, who is yet to be identified.

Officers are reviewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the killer

Officials are conducting house-to-house inquiries and speaking to local businesses.

Detective Inspector, Kevin West, said: "I know this will shock and concern the community, and I would like to reassure people that we are doing everything we can to investigate this incident and trace the person responsible."

"Officers are currently conducting a search of the area and will remain in the vicinity to provide reassurance and address any concerns that local residents may have."

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time, and who may have information that could help our investigation, to contact the police immediately."
