Salford Reach Fourth Round for First Time in Club History
Salford City FC, playing in front of 4,610 at the Peninsula Stadium, beat League One strugglers Huddersfield Town 2-1 to secure a place in the FA Cup fourth round for the first time in the club's history. Salford took the lead after 18 minutes through Brandon Thomas-Asante, but Huddersfield's Sorba Thomas equalized just two minutes later. Josh Morris' second-half strike proved enough to send Salford through.
Shrewsbury Town Overcome Grimsby Town
In another FA Cup third round replay, League One Shrewsbury Town beat Grimsby Town 3-2 at the New Meadow. Charlie Caton put Shrewsbury ahead, but Kieran Green equalized for Grimsby just before half-time. Ryan Bowman restored Shrewsbury's lead, but Gavan Holohan equalized again for Grimsby. Harry Chapman's goal ten minutes from time secured Shrewsbury's place in the fourth round.
FA Cup Tradition Continues
The FA Cup, the oldest cup competition in the world, continues to produce shocks and surprises. Salford City's victory over Huddersfield Town is just the latest example of a lower-league team overcoming a higher-ranked opponent. The FA Cup fourth round draw will be held on Monday, January 9th.
