Quek says the show is a 'lovely environment'
The former hockey player has praised the 'safe' environment of Strictly Come Dancing.
Sam Quek has praised the 'safe' environment of Strictly Come Dancing. The former hockey player, who won the show in 2016, said that the show is a "lovely environment" and that she felt "really safe" throughout her time on the show.
Quek said that she was particularly impressed with the show's safeguarding procedures. "I felt really safe," she said. "I knew that I could go to anyone on the production team if I had any concerns, and they would always listen to me."
Quek's comments come after a number of allegations of bullying and harassment on Strictly Come Dancing. In 2021, former professional dancer Brendan Cole alleged that he had been bullied by the show's producers. And in 2022, former contestant Seann Walsh alleged that he had been harassed by a member of the production team.
Despite these allegations, Quek said that she believes that Strictly Come Dancing is a "safe" and "positive" environment. "I think it's a really lovely environment," she said. "Everyone is really supportive of each other, and I think that's really important."
Quek's comments are likely to be welcomed by the BBC, which has been keen to stress that Strictly Come Dancing is a "safe" and "family-friendly" show. In a statement, a BBC spokesperson said: "We are committed to ensuring that Strictly Come Dancing is a safe and positive environment for everyone involved. We have robust safeguarding procedures in place, and we are always looking for ways to improve them."
