Stoke City 2-1 Derby County: Potters claim second win under Pelach
Stoke City have claimed their second win under new manager Alex Neil after edging out local rivals Derby County 2-1 at the bet365 Stadium.
Neil, who replaced Michael O'Neill at the helm in February, had seen his side draw 1-1 at home to Barnsley and lose 2-0 at Millwall in their previous two outings.
But the Potters put in a much-improved performance against their Championship rivals, with goals from Nick Powell and Jacob Brown earning them a deserved victory.
Derby took the lead in the 15th minute when Lee Buchanan's cross was met by Luke Plange, who headed home from close range.
Stoke responded well to going behind, however, and they levelled the scores just five minutes later when Powell curled a superb effort into the top corner from the edge of the area.
The Potters continued to press for a winner and they were rewarded for their efforts in the 65th minute when Brown latched onto a loose ball in the Derby area and fired home a low shot.
Derby pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Stoke held on to secure a valuable three points.
The win lifts Stoke up to 18th in the Championship table, while Derby remain bottom of the standings.
Stoke City will be looking to build on this win when they travel to face Bristol City on Saturday, while Derby County will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Blackpool on the same day.
